It is uncommon for mass shooters to survive their encounters with police. They typically choose soft targets, and plan to end their shooting sprees with suicide. The last two big school shootings, though, have had one thing in common: the shooters survived. That means that prosecutes have to build cases against them, even when there is no question about their guilt. Those efforts uncover evidence like this, a video from Nikolas Cruz.
Cruz killed 17 people and wounded 17 more in his former high school in Parkland, Florida back in February. Now it seems Cruz made videos detailing his plans before he carried them out.
“When you see me on the news you’ll know who I am,” Cruz says.
“You’re all going to die. Pew pew pew. I can’t wait.”
“Hello. My name is Nik and I’m going to be the next school shooter of 2018,” Cruz says.
“My goal is at least 20 people with an AR-15. … Location is Stoneman Douglas in Parkland, Florida.”
“It’s going to be a big event,” he said.
“And when you see me on the news, you’ll know who I am.”
“Two of the videos were apparently recorded on February 14 – the day of the shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland,” The Daily Mail notes. “It is unclear when the third video was recorded.”
‘You’re all going to die,’ he says before making gunshot sounds.
“Today is the day. The day that it all begins. The day of my massacre shall begin.”
“All the kids in school will run in fear and hide. From the wrath of my power they will know who I am.”
“I’ve had enough being told what to do and when to do. … Telling me I’m an idiot and a dumb***,” he says.
“In real life, you’re all the dumb***. You’re all stupid and brainwashed.”
He also mentions a woman’s name: Angie. As of now, it remains unclear who Angie might be, but Cruz seems infatuated with her. “I hope to see you in the afterlife,” he says.
The video was released by Broward State Attorney’s Office after Cruz’s public defender began working on Cruz’s plea. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, and this video clearly shows premeditation, a detail that should ensure a first degree murder conviction.
“I already know what he did,” Fred Guttenberg told reporters. Guttenberg’s daughter Jaime was killed by Cruz.
“He’s evil. Repulsive. He deserves to be dead… He talked about how he was going to be someone now. It’s a level of thought that I can’t comprehend. It looks, from the words, like the kid had joy.”
“I don’t want to see the delight he took in planning the murders of our children.”
