Early Tuesday afternoon, YouTube’s headquarters was the scene of a shooting. As the active-shooter procedures were enacted, the buildings were evacuated. Now, as the confusion at the sprawling campus is settling down, more about the situation is coming to light.

San Bruno Police were on scene in just two minutes. One victim with a gunshot wound was found near the entrance of the building. As police entered, they found a woman deceased. At this point, it appears that it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound and police believe this was the shooter.

Cheif Ed Barberini of San Bruno California Police Department held a press conference and let the media know that the event had moved into the investigation stage.

On thing that he noted was that two of the gunshot victims were found “at an adjacent business.” It is unclear if the adjacent premises belongs to YouTube or not. Those two have been transported to a hospital and their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

While the police are not ready to identify the shooter, they are currently working on the assumption that the scene is under-control.

Part of the difficulty in this incident came from the size of the sprawling campus. The employees had to be evacuated during, and after, the incident. A reporter asked about a rumor that the responding authorities were hampered by the security inside the building, and had to borrow badges to gain access to restricted areas.

The employees still on scene are now being interviewed by the authorities. More information will come to light as the witnesses tell their stories. We’ll keep you updated as the information becomes available.
