Democrats are outraged over a doctored quote from Rep. Maxine Waters (California) that was used to attack fellow Democrat, New York City Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

“If you see anybody from the Cuomo Administration in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. And you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere,” the misquoted comment from the California lawmaker, which angered Democrats, stated.

Liberals said the comment — which Waters actually said in 2018 to order an attack on members of the Trump administration — was “way over the line” and was  “inciting violence” in more ways than one.

“Way way way over the line. Especially in light of what happened at the Capitol on Jan 6,” said Lis Smith, former Pete Buttigieg adviser Lis Smith wrote.

“This is encouraging violence against public officials – plain & simple. Absolutely disgusting. No tolerance for this. Haven’t we learned the lessons from Washington D.C. just weeks ago?” New York Lieutenant Gov. Kathy Hochul added.

“This is more than tonedeaf, especially considering what’s happened in recent days. This is unacceptable and ridiculous,” commented Democrat New York state Sen. Jamaal T. Bailey.

“This is appalling and dangerous. Encouraging violence must never be tolerated. Shame on whoever is behind this kind of garbage,”Speaker of the New York State Assembly Carl Heastie said.

NY State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar for her part wrote: “This kind of incitement to violence against government leaders must stop. Especially after the recent siege in the US Capitol, we must condemn these types of threats. They endanger our democracy. This is not who we are and we can do better.”

“Violent rhetoric like this will not be tolerated. Especially in the aftermath of the Capitol insurrection, we must condemn all forms of violence against our public officials,” the official account of the Office of the Queens Borough President tweeted.

Other Democrats also piled on condemning the supposed call for violence against Governor Cuomo.

“What’s wrong with you? Threatening violence against duly elected representatives of the people of New York is fascism,” said NYS Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz. “The hatred unleashed by Trump and his gang of thugs continues to reverberate throughout the country. Enough is enough.”

Waters’ comment directed at Trump, his admin officials

Ironically, Democrats were largely silent when Rep. Waters — a fierce critic of the former President Trump — actually made the comment, openly calling for her supporters to publicly confront and harass members of the Trump administration in response to his implementation of tighter immigration controls at the US-Mexico border.

“Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up. And if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. And you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere,” Waters told a crow at the Wilshire Federal Building back in 2018.

“… Mr. President, we will see you every day, every hour of the day, everywhere that we are to let you know you cannot get away with this,” she added, noting then that she has “no sympathy” for members of the Trump administration.

She also doubled down on her call telling an MSNBC interview that people are going to protest and “harass them.”

“The people are going to turn on them. They’re going to protest. They’re going to absolutely harass them until they decide that they’re going to tell the President, ‘No, I can’t hang with you,’” Waters added.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi didn’t condemn such calls for violence against the Trump administration back then.

“In the crucial months ahead, we must strive to make America beautiful again. Trump’s daily lack of civility has provoked responses that are predictable but unacceptable. As we go forward, we must conduct elections in a way that achieves unity from sea to shining sea.

Meanwhile, here are some of the times that Democrats called for violence against conservatives.
