Whenever someone is lucky enough to receive a letter from the President of the United States, they would normally cherish it. One high school English teacher, Yvonne Mason, who retired after 17 years, received such a letter, but instead of feeling honored to receive a response, she felt compelled to correct the letter for grammatical errors.

Mason had penned a letter to Trump to ask him to personally meet with the families of the Parkland High School shooting. And to her astonishment, Trump responded.

Her astonishment quickly turned somber after discovering numerous grammatical errors. To be fair, in all actuality, the letter was probably written by a White House staff member. However, Mason indicated that the author of the letter would not have passed her class.

“If it had been written in middle school, I’d give it a C or C-plus,” Mason said. “If it had been written in high school, I’d give it a D.”

According to The Hill, the letter contained 11 instances of improper capitalization such as “president” and “state.” Ironically, Mason thought her days of teaching were behind her.

Instead of just letting the issue go, Mason took the time out of her day to correct the various grammatical errors that riddled the response.

She said that she was shocked that anyone at such a level within the government couldn’t even send a proper letter. “When you get letters from the highest level of government, you expect them to be at least mechanically correct,” she explained to the Greenville News.

This is not the first time she has received a letter from a member of the government. A couple of years back, Mason received a letter from Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Senator, which was “exquisite” in terms of grammar and stylization, according to Mason.

She said Trump’s writing, or whoever wrote the letter, was “stylistically appalling.” Mason also added that the letter she received back did not address her issue, and she is still wanting for Trump to address the grieving Parkland families.
