On Wednesday night, a mom shot a man who was trying to steal her SUV while she was stopped at a gas station. The woman’s two toddlers were inside the vehicle when a man hopped into the driver’s seat and tried to take the car. She quickly jumped into the SUV and took control of the situation.
The incident happened at a Shell service station in Dallas, Texas, according to a report by NBC New York. The mother had entered the gas station, leaving her two toddlers in the backseat of the SUV, and a man attempted to steal the vehicle.
According to police, the woman managed to jump back into the SUV, climbing into the front passenger seat, and initially yelled at the man, telling him to stop.
When he refused, the mom pulled a firearm from the glove box and shot the man one time in the head.
After the man was shot, the vehicle struck a nearby utility pole, coming to a stop.
Neither the mother, who was not identified by authorities, nor the toddlers were injured during the incident.
The man, identified as 36-year-old Ricky Wright, was taken to a local hospital for treatment where his injuries were deemed non-life-threatening.
Wright has been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and two counts of unlawful restraint.
The investigation is considered ongoing.
