Chick-fil-A employees have always been touted as the “creme de la creme” when it comes to work ethic and going above and beyond to make the customer feel as if they’re the only customer walking through the doors. There have been plenty of feel-good stories involving these employees, and this one is no different.

Daryl Howard, a 29-year-old manager at a Maryland Chick-fil-A, was working the register on a busy lunch rush when one of their weekly customers, “Mr. Lee,” came into the restaurant. Instead of ordering his normal coffee and chicken biscuit, Mr. Lee looked flustered.
Another manager at the store, Rudy Somoza, told CNN that Mr. Lee “was shaking, almost in tears.” Concerned about the 96-year-old WWII veteran’s well-being, Howard asked Mr. Lee if he was doing alright.
The flustered vet explained that he had gotten a flat tire outside their restaurant. He tried to change the tire himself but was having issues due to his age and prior medical issues. Without missing a beat, Howard told Somoza to take over the register so he could help the elderly vet with his tire.
“He jumped into action without hesitation,” Somoza told the Daily Mail. While he was changing the tire, Somoza snapped a picture of the kind-hearted moment and posted online. Within a day of posting it, the picture had gone viral with thousands of people applauding Howard.
The image, which consisted of Howard kneeling down as he swapped out tires and Mr. Lee standing anxiously next to him, immediately pulled at the heartstrings of those on social media. “Let’s highlight the awesome people in society!” one person wrote, while another wrote: “Chick-fil-A has some pretty awesome employees!”
It only took Howard 15 minutes to swap out the tire before Mr. Lee was back on his way. Somoza lauded Howard’s kind heart by explaining he is always willing to help someone in need.
“His action of kindness was beautiful. Daryl has always been so helpful to anyone in need and deserves this recognition,” Somoza said. Without missing a beat, Mr. Lee reportedly came back the following day for his normal breakfast meal where he thanked Howard again for the assistance.
