You rarely hear of an attempted sexual assault story ending well for the would-be victim, but that’s exactly what happened to an 18-year-old girl who trains in MMA. When Priyanka Singha Roy, who practices various forms of mixed martial arts, was approached by three men who began grabbing at her, she made sure to teach them a lesson.
Roy was on her bicycle with her three younger sisters as they had planned to visit a nearby shop in India. According to Story Pick, three men appeared and began grabbing at her in a sexual manner.
Instead of running away or making a commotion, Roy decided to issue some instant justice to her would-be assailants. She warned them to leave her and her sisters alone, but the men persisted. One bystander saw the event and described what happened.
“After hearing a commotion, we rushed to the area and found that the girl had put the three youths on the ground. She told us that she punished them for misbehaving with her. Her courage will inspire others in the area.”
Roy’s mother told Hindustan Times how her daughter let the three men off easy. “My daughter is a keen student of martial arts. The youths were not aware of her skills. My daughter initially asked them to restrain themselves, but they paid no heed and continued with their lewd behavior. Then she beat them up.”
The three men accused of trying to sexually assault the teen girl, Amit Sahani, Dip Mandal and Bhaskar Mandal, were all arrested shortly after the incident.
The superintendent of the local police department applauded her courage. “She displayed rare bravery by dealing with the youths in the way she did,” he said. After news of her heroic deed hit the internet, she was congratulated and praised for her actions.
Many on social media reading her story encouraged other young women to learn some form of self-defense as well.
India is a country plagued by rampant sexual assault. According to the Washington Post, there have been numerous incidents of gang rapes that have resulted in the death of the victim. Finally, here’s a story of a young woman who knows how to protect herself. And isn’t afraid to do so.
