The summer of 2018 hasn’t been filled with glowing stories of industrious kids. Rather the opposite is true. And now another story has developed about a group of kids mowing a lawn. The group, led by a 12-year-old boy, had the cops called on them by the people next door when they crossed into the neighbor’s lawn.
The incident happened in Maple Heights, Ohio. Reginald ‘Reggie’ Fields is making money this summer by mowing lawns. He has assistance from some cousins and his siblings. He was mowing a lawn for Lucille Holt when he accidentally crossed into Holt’s neighbor’s yard.
“The yards are not separated, but run on from each other making it difficult to see where one lawn begins, and another ends,” the Daily Mail writes.
The neighbors, angry about the trespass, called the cops.
“An indignant Holt captured the moment police arrived in a video which has since got viral, and been seen around 130,000 times,” DM adds.
“Who does that?” she asked. “I’m so angry right now. This is totally ridiculous.”
Reggie’s mother, Brandy Fields, and Lucille Holt both were upset by the 911 call. “They should be glad these kids aren’t here breaking their cars windows out. They should be glad they aren’t here stealing their cars,” Holt added.
“They call the police for everything, they call the police because my kids were throwing snowballs. Who does that?”
Maple Heights Police Department, Lt. Joe Mocsiran acknowledged that the call had been made, but assured concerned citizens that no legal action had been taken.
“They said I was cutting their grass. I didn’t know it,” Reggie, who runs Mr. Reggie’s Lawn Cutting Service, told reporters.
The publicity has been good for business. Reggie now has people calling him to come cut their lawns, and others have made donations of equipment to help him grow his business.
“People are inboxing me like, ‘how can I get in touch with these children? Where are they at? I got property I want these kids to cut’,” Holt said.
The summer may end well for Mr. Reggie’s Lawn Cutting Service. The added business is certainly an opportunity, but Reggie has also received an education in both the good and bad side of human nature.
