Ohio certified its election results on Friday, announcing President Donald Trump as the winner— and awarding him the state’s 18 electoral votes just like in 2016.

President Trump won the popular vote in the state with 3,154,834 votes compared to Democratic nominee Joe Biden who got 2,679,165 from Ohio.

“I’m fully confident Ohio’s voice was heard in a fair and honest election,” Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose told News Center 7.

The state had a record number of ballots cast this election season — seen over 200,000 more than those who participated in the polls in 2016 —  with a large increase those who opt for early and absentee voting due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a separate tweet, he reiterated that the final certified results for the office of President of the United States with Donald J. Trump gathered 3,154,834 votes or 53.2% compared to Biden with  2,679,165 voters or (45.2%).

The overall turnout was also a “record 74%.”

Commenting on the ongoing legal battle between the Trump and Biden campaigns, LaRose said President Trump has “every right” to pursue legitimate legal claims but that it is a “disservice to democracy” if the legal challenges turn out to be “baseless.”

“When people invent conspiracies about elections that aren’t based in reality, that’s damaging and that’s irresponsible and shouldn’t happen,” LaRose said.

“Because the fact is that elections are run better and more honestly than, really, I think they ever have been,” he added.

The award winning actor said trusting election outcomes is “the very foundation of our way of life in a democracy.” Meanwhile, data also showed a total of 5,974,121 ballots this year —  were cast in the state with a ballot rejection rate  at 0.42%.
