California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters lashed at African-American voters who are thinking of voting for President Donald Trump’s re-election.
The known Trump critic told SiriusXM’s “The Joe Madison Show” that it is “shameful” that young black voters are considering to vote for the incumbent Republican president as she piled on harsh words to African-Americans “who think somehow they can align themselves with Trump.”
“It just hurts me so bad to see blacks talking about supporting Trump. I don’t know why they would be doing it. I don’t know why it is on their minds,” Waters reportedly said.
“He’s a racist. He does not have any appreciation for black people and black women in particular.”
Waters: Black vote for Trump “shameful”
The California lawmaker, who has constantly called for President Trump’s impeachment, went on to say that the Republican president has “no respect” for Black people.
“He is not doing anything for us. For those black young men who think somehow they can align themselves with Trump, not only are they terribly mistaken, any of them showing their face, I will never, ever forgive them,” Waters added.
Her claims come as President Trump’s accomplishments for the Black Community are also often cited for his growing support among African-Americans. This includes passing the long-awaited criminal justice reform law, his funding support for historically black colleges and universities as well as delivering the lowest unemployment rate ever recorded among African-Americans.
Poverty rates among Black Americans also reached historic lows under the President.
The California lawmaker claimed that a vote for the Republican president from Black voters is “unconscionable” and “shameful” arguing that African-Americans who would choose to support the incumbent president should look into how this support would make others in the Black community “struggle.”
Aside from Waters, several other Democrats have earlier come after Black supporters of President Trump.
Biden’s “you ain’t black” comment
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, for example, even went as far as saying that African-American radio host, Charlamagne Tha God, is not “black” if he’s considering not voting against the incumbent Republican president.
“Listen, you gotta come see us when you come to New York, VP Biden, because it’s a long way until November and we got more questions,” Charlamagne Tha God, a host of “The Breakfast Club, told Biden in an interview in May.
“You got more questions?” the former VP retorted. “Well I’ll tell you, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”
