President Donald Trump said on Thursday that distribution of the long-anticipated coronavirus vaccine could start as early as next week with the most-vulnerable as the first recipients including frontline workers, medical staff and seniors.

“The whole world is suffering this tremendous pandemic, not just us, the world … and we are rounding the curve,” President Trump said in his Thanksgiving message to American troops overseas via teleconference.

“The vaccines are being delivered literally, it’ll start next week and the week after. It’ll hit the frontline workers, the seniors, the doctors, nurses, a lot of people and we’re going very quickly,” he added.

The incumbent Republican President said aside from the first two companies that already announced their vaccine is effective “a third, fourth and fifth” are also coming up.

Pfizer and BioNTech announced earlier this month that their potential coronavirus vaccine is 90% effective.

A week after, Moderna also said its vaccine candidate is 94.5% effective against COVID-19 based on clinical trials. Unlike Pfizer’s potential vaccine which needs a special freezer, Moderna’s version can reportedly be stored using standard refrigeration temperature making it more feasible for mass distribution worldwide.

AstraZeneca also recently reported preliminary results that its vaccine is between 62% to 90% effective depending on the dosage administered.

“Medical miracle”

In his message to US troops deployed worldwide, President Trump also shared how the development of the vaccine to cure the pandemic that has infected 61.7 million people worldwide came as a “medical miracle.”

“Some people have called it a ‘medical miracle’ — and it’s really a miracle,” the incumbent Republican President said. “It would have taken 4 to 5 years to do this normally but we pushed it very hard.”

Meanwhile, President Trump argued that Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden, should not take credit for the development of the vaccine — after the former Obama VP earlier made insinuations of “working towards a safe vaccine” as he lauded the positive strides in the vaccine development as a “great news.”

“Joe Biden failed with the swine flu, H1N1, totally failed with the swine flu,” the incumbent President said. “Don’t let him take credit for the vaccines because the vaccines were me and I pushed people harder than they’ve ever been pushed before and we got that approved and through and nobody’s ever seen anything like it.”

‘Operation Warp Speed’

Following the earlier announcement of Pfizer, Biden said: “As we work toward a safe and effective vaccine, we know the single most effective thing we can do to stop the spread of COVID is wear a mask.”

President Trump’s remarks came ahead of the December 10 meeting of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to review Pfizer’s requestfor an emergency authorization for its vaccine.

At the onslaught of the coronavirus — which originated in Wuhan, China — the Federal government and President Trump initiated ‘Operation Warp Speed,’ to fast-track the development of COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics.
