Self-proclaimed Democratic socialist, Senator Bernie Sanders, is expecting Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden — who has been proclaimed as President-elect by the media — to uphold the progressive policies that their “ Unity Task Force” agreed before the election.
The lawmaker from Vermont also insisted that the “far left agenda” that they are pushing has the support of “the majority of American people.”
“I sometimes find it amusing when our opponents talk about the far left agenda. The truth is that when you talk about raising the minimum wage to 15 bucks an hour, when you’re talking about expanding health care to all people as a human right, when you talk about effectively taking on climate change, when you talk about making public colleges and universities tuition free, these are not far-left ideas,” Senator Sanders said on CNN’s “State of the Union” over the weekend.
“These are common sense ideas that the majority of the American people support,” he added.
“I fully expect that the Biden administration will be advocating those proposals that they agreed to … we’re going to fight to make sure that they’re implemented.”

The progressive lawmaker, who faced-off with former VP Biden during the Democratic primaries, made the remark as host Jake Tapper sought his comment over accusations from a number of Democrats that the far-left agenda is to blame for the party losses — especially in the House of Representatives.
Nobody I know who’s running for office talks about defunding the police,” the Vermont senator said.
“What we talk about is making police officers accountable, making sure that police departments do what they can do best, figuring out how you deal with mental illness, how you deal with homelessness, whether those are, in fact, police responsibilities, making sure the police officers are not killing innocent African-Americans. That is not defund the police,” he added.
In talks with Biden for cabinet role
Senator Sanders also confirmed that he is “in touch” with the transition team of Biden for a possible cabinet post after he expressed interest in the Labor Secretary position last week.
“I talked to the Biden administration,” Sanders said. “I want to do my best in whatever capacity as a senator or in the administration to protect the working families of this country,” he added.
Aside from Senator Sanders, several progressive lawmakers have already earlier branded the Biden-Harris administration as the “most-progressive.”
Senator Elizabeth Warren, who earlier ran for president in the Democratic primaries, credited Joe Biden’s White House victory — as called by major media outlets — for running on the “ most progressive economic and racial platform ever.”
Biden’s agenda ‘incredibly progressive’
Earlier, Biden’s deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield said the former VP won’t disappoint progressive members of the Democratic Party with his “ incredibly progressive and aggressive” agenda.
“I think that Vice President Biden campaigned on an incredibly progressive and aggressive agenda,” Bedingfield told NBC’s Chuck Todd on “Meet the Press.”
“He’s going to make good on those commitments,” she continued. “It’s a big, aggressive plan.
