More Latinos backed President Donald Trump in this year’s election compared to 2016 and he was able to increase election margins in 78 out of the 100 Hispanic counties of the US, according to various reports.
The increased support came despite Democrats and the mainstream media branding President Trump as “racist” for years.
TheBlaze reported that President Trump saw his numbers rise from the Hispanic community in southern Texas. In Zapata County specifically, with 94.7% Hispanic population, he defeated Democrat Joe Biden by 52-47. Approximately 55% of Cuban-Americans in Florida also voted for the incumbent Republican president — thanks in part of liberals cozying up to the ideals of socialism.
“A new report found that Trump’s increased support from Latinos wasn’t limited to only border towns in Texas and South Florida. Trump made significant inroads with Latino voters in the 2020 election throughout the nation,” the publication said.
Overall, President Trump improved his margins in 78 of the 100 majority-Hispanic counties nationwide, according to an analysis made by Politico. He also saw increased support from Latinos in the major battleground states, based on exit polls.
“Puerto Ricans as far away as Philadelphia and Mexican Americans in Milwaukee drifted Trump-ward,” Politico reported.
Defund the police, socialism turned off Hispanics
“Most Latinos identify first as working-class Americans, and Trump spoke to that. Their economic language is more aligned with the way Republicans speak: pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, owning your own business,” the publication added, quoting Josh Zaragoza, a top Democratic data specialist in Arizona.
“Let’s face it, ‘defund the police’ is just not the best slogan, especially in a place like Miami, where a lot of people work in law enforcement, or along the border of Texas, where Latinos are in Border Patrol,” said Jose Parra, founder of the consultancy Prospero Latino.
Politico added: “Calls to ‘defund the police,’ a boycott of Goya Foods and the threat of socialism turned off some Latino voters. And even using the term Latinx to describe Latinos in a way that’s gender-neutral only served to puzzle many Hispanics.”
Meanwhile, some Democrats also earlier expressed concerns over the party’s increasing move to embrace far-left policies like calls to defund the police and socialism.
Rep. Vincente Gonzalez of Texas reportedly said “defunding police, open borders, socialism” is “killing” the Democratic Party.
Election a “failure” for House Democrats
Rep. Abigail Spanberger of Virginia criticized her party’s strategy in the 2020 polls and said the election “was a failure” for House Democrats in this cycle — as Republicans were able to flip 12 congressional seats so far, nine of those were flipped by GOP women.
She cited the party’s messaging on calls to defund the police and socialism for some Democrats losing House seats.
“We have to commit to not saying the words ‘defund the police’ ever again. We need to not ever use the words socialist or socialism ever again. Because while people think it doesn’t matter, it does matter, and we have lost good members because of that,” Spanberger told her Democratic colleagues.
“If we run this race again we will get f***ing torn apart again in 2022,” she added.

In the Democrat stronghold of California, the GOP flipped more House seats than any other state — also thanks to the same messaging of defunding the police, and flirting with the idea of socialism.
